The hardest thing about writing this blog, it appears, is trying to decide what I’m going to call the thing. I reckon I was taught pretty early on in primary school that naming any piece of writing should come after the piece is written, so I’ll make my mind up when I’ve finished.
Anyway, prologue over, I’ll start… now:
This semester, I’ve been given the gift of time.
I did 5 of my 8 modules in 2013 so I’ve got a lot more time this term/semester/year/whatever to do what I want to do. It’s also been much easier to move back into the swing of things after Christmas now that I’m not faced with the daunting task of making friends out of strangers this time around, as well as starting brand new modules.
Last year, while walking around a Christmas-light-laden Oxford city centre, I decided that I need to start making the most of the city by making more of an effort to come and visit it when I have the chance. This semester, I don’t really have an excuse to stop me from doing exactly that. Even when it’s raining, it’s a ridiculously nice place to be.
I had to work at home all the way up to the 26th of January. Needless to say I was absolutely desperate to get back here and see everyone again, especially because I knew they were all enjoying refreshers while I was at home on my own. It’s crazy to think that this time next year I’ll have moved back into a house, not halls, and I’ll be half way through my time at Brookes. This 3-year stint already feels like it’s flying by so quickly, and soon enough I’m going to be out in the real world trying to make something of my life.
That should be interesting.
So far, so good though: a few blips put to one side, I was very happy with the results that I got at the end of January. Maybe I should avoid looking two and a half years into the future and live more in the present… making the most of the experiences that I’m gaining here.
Yeah, I reckon that’s what I’ll call this one.
Let me know what you’re looking to do more of this year to make 2014 count in the comments section below!
